Nondual Recovery Recovery Without the War Within

Welcome to Nondual Recovery: A New Path to Freedom from Addiction and Avoidance

W

If you’ve arrived here, chances are something in your life has a grip on you. Maybe it’s alcohol or another substance. Maybe it’s food, shopping, scrolling, or the endless pull of one more episode. Or maybe it’s the opposite of reaching for something: the task you keep putting off, the conversation you never quite have, the life you keep postponing. Whatever brought you here, welcome. You’re in good company.

Nondual Recovery is a new methodology for recovery from addictions of every kind, and from the avoidances that so often travel alongside them. It is a new modality, offered to stand beside the others that have helped so many people, and to open another door for those who are looking for one.

Like the 12-step fellowships and Buddhist recovery groups, Nondual Recovery begins from a conviction that the deepest and most lasting recovery comes from addressing the root cause of addiction, not only its outward behaviors. Those traditions have shown, across generations, that a spiritual approach can reach places that willpower alone cannot. Nondual Recovery shares that conviction and draws on the insights of nondual and contemplative spirituality to name the root in its own way: a painful sense of division within ourselves, a war within the self that we try to quiet by grabbing for relief or by turning away from what we fear. The good news at the heart of this approach is that this division is not the final truth about who you are. Beneath it lies a wholeness that was never broken and never addicted.

Because Nondual Recovery works at the level of the root, it can address many symptoms at once. The same underlying pattern that drives a drink can drive a doughnut binge, a spending spree, or hours lost to a screen. It can also show up as procrastination, numbness, or the quiet habit of avoiding what matters most. Many of us carry more than one of these. Rather than fighting each one separately, Nondual Recovery invites you to look at what they have in common and to meet that shared source with awareness, compassion, and practice. As the root loosens, the branches often loosen with it.

This approach is presented in full in the book Nondual Recovery: Recovery Without the War Within, which is available here as a free online resource. It’s offered openly, as a nonprofit venture, for anyone who might benefit. We hope you’ll read it in its entirety, at your own pace, starting with the Introduction. The book builds on itself, and the early chapters lay the foundation for everything that follows.

This blog will be a companion to the book. Here we’ll explore questions the book leaves open, share reflections from a coaching perspective, and talk about what it actually looks like to bring these ideas into daily life. You’re welcome to bring your curiosity, your skepticism, and your questions.

Nondual Recovery doesn’t ask you to abandon any program, practice, or form of care that is helping you. Many people will find it fits naturally alongside therapy, medical treatment, or a fellowship they already belong to. If you are in physical danger from withdrawal or in crisis, please reach out to a medical professional first.

Wherever you are on your path, thank you for joining us here. We’re glad you came.
